CHP Shoot-out with Shotgun Armed Suspect Near Pedrick Road Monday Night

Last night (Monday, February 3, 2014) an armed suspect brandishing a sawed-off shotgun charged CHP officers in Solano County after being stopped on East-bound I-80 between Pedrick Road and Kidwell Road. The officer responded by shooting the suspect once with a CHP issued shotgun. Dixon police responded to a request from the CHP for assistance.

The suspect was taken to a Solano County hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The incident began in Sacramento County where the suspect reportedly was involved in other crimes using his shotgun, including theft of an automobile. The suspect fled Sacramento County and drove to Contra Costa County where he reportedly stole another vehicle.

A “Be On the Look Out” (BOLO) alert was sent to all law enforcement agencies in the area. The alert described the second stolen vehicle as a mid-90’s white Ford Ranger pick-up.

Solano area CHP officers took position at the Dixon Avenue on-ramp and spotted a speeding vehicle matching that description and pursued it.

The suspect pulled over just past Pedrick Road. As the CHP officers approached on foot, the suspect exited his vehicle with a shotgun in hand and rushed towards the officers, who then shot him to protect themselves.

See the article below from the Sacramento Police Department with all the details of the incident.

Arrest Stemming from Shooting on Oakmont Street

On Monday, February 3, 2014, at approximately 9:25 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 2300 block of Oakmont Street on a report of a subject shot.  Officers arrived and located the 21-year-old male victim of the shooting who was quickly transported to the hospital.  The known suspect, Webster Lee, 42, fled the scene and was ultimately stopped later that night by the California Highway Patrol on 1-80 near Kidwell Road.

Sacramento Police officers responded to the initial call on Oakmont Street and found that Lee, his wife and another female, were involved in an argument inside an apartment.  At one point, a shot had been fired.  Lee, armed with the firearm, left their apartment, went to a nearby apartment and stole the neighbor’s car keys.  As Lee, his wife, their teen-aged daughter and the adult female friend were getting into the stolen car, the neighbor’s ex-boyfriend confronted Lee.  Lee fired several shots at the ex-boyfriend striking him multiple times in the upper body.  The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries from the shooting and was transported to an area hospital.  Lee and the three women left in the stolen vehicle.

Sacramento Police officers searched for Lee and the stolen vehicle to no avail.  The investigation continued into the possible domestic violence motivated incident.  The vehicle was put into the stolen vehicle system flagged as armed and dangerous and the information was distributed to outside agencies.

At approximately 12:00 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department Communications Center was notified by the Concord Police Department regarding two women that had been dropped off in Concord, one of which had a gunshot wound.  The women were identified and found to be Lee’s wife and the 35-year-old female friend.  The female friend had a non-life threatening gunshot wound that was believed to have been sustained in the shooting on Oakmont Street, Sacramento.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., the vehicle that Lee had stolen was located in a Concord park along with his unharmed teen-aged daughter. Information about the Sacramento shooting, and a description and picture of the known suspect was disseminated to Concord patrol officers.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., an unattended, running vehicle was stolen from a parking lot in Concord.  The officer viewed surveillance video and believed the suspect to be Webster Lee. That information was sent to outside law enforcement agencies, including the California Highway Patrol.  Later that evening, the vehicle was spotted and stopped on I-80 and Kidwell Road by the California Highway Patrol.  An officer involved shooting occurred and Lee was taken into custody.

Lee is currently in police custody in a Vacaville hospital and will be booked into the Sacramento County jail on multiple charges including attempted homicide, carjacking, home invasion and assault with a deadly weapon. Investigation is still in progress and additional charges may be sought. The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this case to contact the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
