DFS Comedy Night Coming Saturday, July 26

Comedy Night 2014 - Dixon Family Services’ Summer Fundraising Event - is set for Saturday, July 26 at Denverton Hall 5:30 to 10 pm.

Dixon Family Services is celebrating 30 years as the community-based, one-stop-shop of social services for Dixon’s residents who are in need of a myriad of assistance programs. The Comedy Night event is an opportunity for all community members to come out and support the organization, while having a great time.

The evening includes a delicious tri-tip dinner provided by Recology, no-host bar provided by Dixon Rotary and a community-supported bake sale and auction. There will also be lots of raffle and auction prizes to win.

Michael Mancini, AKA “The World’s Funniest Cop” and Kellen Erskine, who performs all over the country including Las Vegas and Disneyland, are two well-known comedians who will have everyone in stitches. Master of Ceremonies Charlie B. Early, is a professional comic as well, so the entire evening is guaranteed to be a barrel of laughs.

A brief presentation will honor Dixon Family Services supporters, volunteers, and other partners. Reasons the 30 year old organization is vital to the community will be highlighted.

Then, at 8:00 “The Show” begins and heavy laughter is predicted.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Tickets are available to purchase at Dixon Family Services at 155 North Second Street, The Dixon Tribune at 145 East A Street, The Dixon Family Services Thrift Store at 1150 North First Street and Dixon Florist and Gifts at 150 East A Street.

More support is needed by way of sponsorships, donations and raffle prizes. For more information contact Cookie at DFS, 678-0442.

Dixon School District Facilities Debt Issues On Agenda for Thursday, August 7

By Brian Dolan, Superintendent of Schools Like almost every school district in California, the Dixon Unified School District (DUSD) has had to go into debt to pay for the costs of building or maintaining facilities. Unlike most other places, over the last six years DUSD has paid the majority of this debt from our General Fund. At this time, those payments are a significant obstacle for us to overcome and we are exploring alternative ways to pay them
