Tuskegee Airman to be Honored with the First Memorial Plaque at Dixon’s Sacramento Valley National Cemetery

A memorial service honoring 1st LT Newman C. Golden, USAF is scheduled for Friday, July 25 at 11:00 am at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. The ceremony will include Military Honors and a Flyover.

1st LT Golden was a Tuskegee Airman during World War II in Italy. During the Korean War he was a pilot of a P-51D Mustang Night Fighter assigned to the 39th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, 18th Fighter Bomber Group. While on a combat mission over North Korea, Golden’s plane took a direct hit from anti-aircraft fire. The plane burst into flames and crashed. Initially Golden was listed as MIA. On March 31, 1954, his status was changed to presumed Killed in Action Body Not Recovered.

The Memorial Wall and Ossuary is a new service provided to veterans and 1st LT Golden is the first to have a memorial plaque at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. An invitation is extended to all veterans, and the general public to attend this historic event.

Dixon School District Facilities Debt Issues On Agenda for Thursday, August 7

By Brian Dolan, Superintendent of Schools Like almost every school district in California, the Dixon Unified School District (DUSD) has had to go into debt to pay for the costs of building or maintaining facilities. Unlike most other places, over the last six years DUSD has paid the majority of this debt from our General Fund. At this time, those payments are a significant obstacle for us to overcome and we are exploring alternative ways to pay them
