DIXON, CA (MPG) - It was 1948 when 19-year-old Jim Conley drove his 1941 Plymouth down main street in Woodland, and he spotted 16-year-old Joyce Waggoner standing outside of the State Theater passing out tickets.  As he admired her beauty, he wasn't paying attention to the road ahead and bumped into the car in front of him. Oops!

Joyce's job inside the theater was to spin a wheel for someone to win a prize.  Jim, sitting in the second level top row, would raise his hand as if was the winner.  Joyce would run all the way to the top row to verify the ticket number only to discover he didn't even have a ticket.  They fell in love and were married a year later in Reno, Nevada.  Their favorite song, from the movie Casa Blanca, was As Time Goes By.

Jim and Joyce moved to Dixon in 1957 to raise their children Patty, Debbie, and Jimbo.  Jim worked for Stoeven Brothers and later for Mace Meat Co.  Joyce worked for the Betty Ann Shop before opening her own hair salon called the House of Beauty.  Jim and Joyce have enjoyed all these years living in Dixon and January 29, 1949, is how it all started.  Happy 75th Anniversary!
