WASHINGTON, D.C. (MPG) - On April 20, U.S. Representative John Garamendi (D-CA08) released the following statement on the passage of national security bills for Ukraine, Israel, and Pacific allies:

“After months of inaction by House Republicans, House Democrats proved that the United States will not abandon its allies by passing funding for Ukraine. As Putin wages his illegal war, it is more vital than ever that the U.S. stand by the brave people of Ukraine in their fight for freedom and democracy. I am thrilled that the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives has finally heeded the President’s call to stand by our Ukrainian allies.

“Today, I voted no on sending more money for offensive weapons to Israel. While I will always support the people of Israel, we cannot continue to provide unconditional U.S. funding for Prime Minister Netanyahu’s unconscionable bombing campaign in Gaza. Time and again, Netanyahu has acted against President Biden’s warnings and failed to recommit to the international consensus on a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. After more than 34,000 deaths, half of which are children, and a continued blockade of food and medical supplies, the U.S. can no longer turn a blind eye to the suffering of the people of Gaza.

“I am also pleased to have voted to support our partners in the Indo-Pacific. The $8.12 billion funding will help Taiwan, the Philippines, Japan, and other Pacific allies counter the People’s Republic of China's unprovoked aggression and promote peace and stability in the region.

“Continued U.S. support for our allies and partners, through the bills passed today, helps rebuild domestic manufacturing for our national security.”
