Chamber Seeks Board Nominations

DIXON, CA (MPG) - Not only does the Dixon Chamber of Commerce have a new President/CEO, it will soon have five new Board of Directors as well. Shauna Manina, recently hired President/CEO, announced the organization is seeking nominations for the Board of Directors 2021.

The Dixon District Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1909 and is a group of dedicated business leaders and volunteers who actively work together to advocate for the town and local businesses.

Each Chamber member may nominate up to five individuals to be turned in by October 12. The nominees must have been a member in good standing for at least one year and be willing to accept the responsibility of being a member of the Board of Directors.

A Board member who has served for two consecutive three-year terms is not eligible for election to a third consecutive term. In addition, no more than two persons from the same business can serve on the Board of Directors at any one time. Serving on the Board is a way to help make decisions on behalf of the 200 dues-paying business members.

The departing Board members are Bert Gaulke, retired veteran who served as Immediate Past President and Jack Caldwell of California Water. All nomination forms must be received by the Chamber of Commerce no later than 5 pm on Monday, October 12. Nomination forms must be signed and dated. They can be scanned and emailed, faxed, or dropped off at the Chamber office, 220 North Jefferson Street or mailed to P. O. Box 159 in Dixon.

Nominees will be notified by November 2, then there will be an email vote with ballots returned by November 9, by the close of the business day.

Board meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month at 11:30 at the Chamber office. Attendance is expected at those and at Chamber functions. Manina is considering doing an orientation/interview to ensure the newly elected accept responsibility and understand protocol.

"We are going to start our committees back up this next year and add a couple new ones. Board members will be encouraged to be as active as possible in the committees and events," she said.

The Chamber promotes and sponsors many annual community activities like the historical Dixon May Fair Parade, the Epicurean Fete Wine & Food Festival, the annual Citizen of the Year Dinner, candidate forums, business mixers, and ribbon cuttings for new businesses.

"I see really great things coming for the Board and the Chamber," said current Board member Jill Orr who was a Chamber President in 1999. "I'm excited about Shauna's presence. She's been working in Solano County for years and brings a lot of history with her. I know this COVID is going to go away and our businesses are going to come back strong. I think we have an exceptional community and our businesses and their owners have stayed positive and stayed strong through the current situation that we've been dealt."

The current Directors are: President Kay Cayler, Bert Gaulke, Jack Caldwell, Laura Ziegler, Herb Cross, Robin Tully, Jill Orr and Lindsey Hickman.
