FAIRFIELD, CA (MPG) – Dan Marshall, a Lieutenant in the Fairfield Police Department with 22 years of service, announced that he is running for Solano County Sheriff. He brings a fresh approach to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, with a focus on solving serious crimes, finding solutions to intractable problems like homelessness and recidivism, and implementing reforms to promote transparency and ethics within the office. The election takes place in June 2022.
“Solano County needs a new sheriff for a new era, someone with the energy and passion to steer the office into a 21st Century law enforcement model, focusing on public trust and transparency, employee wellness, and a strong Solano community focus,” Marshall said in announcing his candidacy. “I’m prepared to be a sheriff for every Solano County resident, someone who will listen with an open mind to the diverse range of views and experiences in our county and put forth a set of reforms that prioritizes safety while bringing the community together.”
Marshall launched his campaign for sheriff with a three-point plan for reform:
Address homelessness countywide with a task force to help the unhoused and improve quality of life for all; Reduce repeat crimes by adopting smart rehabilitation and re-entry strategies and helping at-risk Solano youth stay on the right path; Develop a 21st-century law enforcement model for the Solano County Sheriff’s Office that focuses on transparency, ethics, and public trust.
Marshall’s campaign for sheriff is already generating significant enthusiasm in the community, as evidenced by the community leaders already supporting his campaign.
“Lieutenant Dan Marshall has proven himself as an effective and capable leader in the Fairfield Police Department,” said Fairfield POA President Nate Strickland. “He has selflessly given back to the community, founding Fairfield’s Police Activities League to providing sports and other activities, keeping youth out of trouble. Our officers participate in this program, developing positive relationships with youth in the community.”
“Dan Marshall gets it,” said Johnicon George, President of Tri-City NAACP. “He understands that effective law enforcement starts with community trust, and he’s passionate about rebuilding the ties between the Solano County Sheriff’s Office and every community that lives here. I appreciate that Dan Marshall is open-minded, caring, and accessible.”
“Dan Marshall implemented his police department’s Homeless Intervention Team, securing housing and family reunification for more than 100 residents experiencing homelessness,” said Suisun City Councilwoman Alma Hernandez. “He knows what’s needed and can do so much more as our Sheriff, spearheading a countywide approach to a crisis that impacts every neighborhood in Solano County.”
“We need more leaders in law enforcement like Dan Marshall who believe in the potential of young people to overcome past mistakes in their lives,” said David Isom, Senior Pastor and FSUSD Governing Board Member. “When youth make mistakes, early intervention rooted in respect, compassion, and hope can help them avoid the revolving door in our justice system. Dan will tackle recidivism head on.”
Other early endorsers include Solano Sheriff Sergeant (Retired) and Past Deputy Sheriff Association President John Arabia, Suisun City Councilwoman Wanda Willams, Vacaville City Councilman Nolan Sullivan, Bethel Community Church Pastor Anthony Gilmore, USMC Sergeant Major (Retired) Jesse Branch, Vallejo Community Leader Tiffanee Jones, Fairfield Business Community Leader Debi Tavey, and Fairfield Community Leader K. Patrice Williams.
Marshall and his wife Alisha are proud Solano County residents. Their four adult children are all graduates of Solano County public schools, and Dan’s two sons currently serve in the Armed Forces. Marshall holds a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego.
