DIXON, CA (MPG) - Regina Loza Hernandez was nominated Soroptimists International Young Woman of the Month by Mr. Stidham, her art teacher at Dixon High School. Mr. Stidham admires the hard work, dedication to her education, generous nature, and kindness that Regina displays daily. She inspires her classmates and teachers with her amazing art skills.

Regina is the daughter of Rebeca Quetzalli Hernanadez Agular and Luis Octavio Loza Franco. She has two sisters, Hanniz and Erendirha. The family migrated from Mexico to the U.S. four years ago. Regina finished 8th grade at C.A. Jacobs. Regina learned English after she moved to Dixon which was accelerated in school. She proudly speaks English and helps her mom with translation.

Regina faced some prejudice when she came to the U.S. It has been a challenge meeting new people in Dixon. A few years later now, Regina has made friends with other migrant students at Dixon High School. They have formed a bond and connection that has made school fun.

Regina’s loves to draw and paint in her spare time. It is a great way for her to express her feelings without words.

Regina plans to go to Sac City College then transfer to Sac State and get her credential to teach high school Spanish. Her parents are very proud of Regina’s plans. She wants to help other migrant students in the future. Regina looks forward to learning how to create lesson plans and develop work that will match her students’ abilities and help them improve their Spanish. Regina’s tip for success is to” trust yourself and always push yourself further!”

Congratulations Regina! Wishing you the best in your future!
