Five to Vie for School Board

DIXON, CA (MPG) - Dixon Unified School District has two Trustee positions open replacing School Board Trustees Regina Espinoza and David Bowen, and there are now five local people vying for those.
The candidates who have completed paperwork are Regina Espinoza, who has served since the resignation of two-term Melissa Maseda in the summer of 2023, Robert E. Sanchez Jr., who was a high school teacher and coach and a father of children in Dixon schools, Michael Ceremello, a longtime community activist who is listed as an Investigative Journalist, Robin Beck-Ruften, listed as a parent, as well as Jimmy Thiessen, listed as a parent.
The two winners in November will join Trustee President Julian Cuevas, John Gabby and Jewel Fink, whose terms expire in 2026.
According to the District website, Cuevas sits as the president for the Dixon Library, received his Bachelor's degree from the University of California San Diego in Political Science/American Politics and has a Master's degree from American University in Public Administration and Policy.
Gabby, a 1995 Dixon High School graduate, who was first elected to the school board in 2007, re-elected in 2011, ran uncontested in 2013 and won re-election in 2018. His tenure included multiple stints as board president.
Fink was elected in November 2018 after moving here to be closer to family. She worked for the Vallejo City Unified School District as a middle and high school teacher; a teacher/counselor in an alternative ed setting; and a district administrator. She was re-elected in 2022.
The window of Vote by Mail Ballot Mailing is Oct. 7 through 29. If available, starting on that particular date, the Registrar of Voters will begin mailing Vote by Mail ballots to voters.
Oct. 7 through 29 is the window for the first day for Vote by Mail ballots to be available for in-person early voting.
Oct. 21 is the close of voter registration and Nov. 5 is Election Day (7 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
