DIXON, CA (MPG) - If you noticed some new faces in Dixon this past week that bear a few wrinkles and maybe silver hair, you might have spotted folks in town who will attend the 50th class reunion of Dixon High School’s Class of 1974 this Saturday, Sept. 21.

The class members had so much school spirit that there are actually two groups that they are part of, although this group is exclusive to the year 1974 that had about 100 graduates.

“For some reason, our class was actually kind of small,” said alumni Shane Taber whose “claim to fame” was that she was the first female class president elected at Dixon High. Now living in Arizona, Taber is helping with the reunion. Some of the locals helping to plan are Lynne (Hanna) Lincoln, James Bounds, Jr., Jill (Ferguson) Orr, Phyllis (Kleeberger) Seelye and Christina Cerna.

The other group is an all-70s Class and that group will hold one in a couple of years, Taber added. This exclusive to 1974 gathering will be in the private event room next door to Pedro’s Cocina which includes a lighted patio area and a full bar at 1425 Market Lane.

“I think we are really fortunate to have such a wonderful group of kids that grew up together,” Jill Orr said. “We are all still very close. It’s a special bond that’s hard to explain.”

Orr reported that the best memories and the best part of their lives came from growing up as classmates in Dixon.

“They’re not just my memories but I think everybody else feels that way. I guarantee we all feel the same way about each other,” Orr said.

Maybe it was the music that brought them close. “Midnight at the Oasis” by Maria Muldaur, “I’m Leaving It All Up to You” by Donny and Marie Osmond and “Sunshine on My Shoulders” by John Denver were just a few of the popular tunes back then.

James Bounds said it’s because they’ve kept in contact.

“We have a lot of locals but I think we’re close because we kept in contact. We had small gatherings, nothing big, but little things that brought people together over the years,” Bounds said. “I think I made it to all of them and some were put together really fast and weren’t really a reunion …but like one.”

Bounds listed some of the details that the organizers are working on that will help continue the bond, such as having the seating in a horseshoe, so no one is looking at another’s back and a fundraiser to help out a classmate who recently lost a family member.
