DIXON, CA (MPG) - The upcoming Nonprofits Mixer sponsored by the Dixon Chamber of Commerce will be on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at the Chamber office, 220 North Jefferson.

Attending events in downtown Dixon is a fun way to stay connected to what is going on and visiting with long-time friends or making new ones. Another opportunity is on its way.

“Going downtown for public events is exciting, isn’t it?  What I enjoy most is running into old friends and colleagues and chatting to catch up.  I also enjoy meeting new people and telling them all about what’s new at Dixon Family Services and one great opportunity coming very soon for information, socialization, refreshments and networking is the Nonprofits Mixer,” said Cookie Powell, Director of Dixon Family Services.

“Many local non-profits organizations, including Dixon Family Services, will have tables set up and will talk to anyone interested in learning more about us. The local nonprofit organizations will have representatives to answer questions, give brochures and lots of freebies. Best of all, you’ll get to meet lots of nice people who serve worthy functions for people of all ages in our community,” she added.

Other nonprofits participating are: American Legion; Change and New Beginnings; Community Medical Centers; Dixon High Athletic Association; Dixon Historical Society; Dixon Lions Club; Dixon Rotary Club; Habitat for Humanity; Kiwanis Club; Solano Black Chamber of Commerce; Solano Library - Dixon Branch; Travis Credit Union; Vaca Jazz Society; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The idea of the Nonprofit Mixer came up at one of our Nonprofit Roundtable meetings that the Chamber hosts monthly.

“The thinking was that if we could get some of them together, they could share information and resources, and build relationships,” said Chamber CEO/President Shauna Manina. “They would also have the opportunity to let members of the public who attend know what they do. Each group will have a table with their information.”

If you’re new to Dixon and want to know how you can join a service organization, a human services agency, church, club, or any number of groups that will enable you to get involved in our lovely community, this is a good place to start your search, she reminded.

The Sept. 25 mixer is free and will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Train Depot building next to the railroad track and tunnel.
