Candidates Forum Set for Sept. 30

Sep 25, 2024 02:59PM ● By MPG Staff

DIXON, CA (MPG) - We’ve seen strong community leaders volunteering for the Dixon Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee such as Peter Timm and Maggie Kittyle move on but the legacy they created in keeping the community informed of election choices continues. Mayor and Dixon Unified School Board Trustees candidate forums are up next.

Two candidates, Steve Bird and James Ward, will make campaign presentations for the office of mayor at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30 at the Council Chambers at Dixon City Hall, 600 East A St.

The Chamber of Commerce will start the Candidate's Night Forum for both men who currently serve the city. Bird has served as mayor for the past four years and as a councilman for two terms previous to that. Ward has served as city treasurer for the past four years.

Bird moved to Dixon in 1988 and worked 24 years with the Dixon Police Department, running for City Council after he retired in 2012 and was re-elected in 2016. He has been a Dixon resident for 36 years. Bird is being challenged by Ward, who has attended city meetings for nearly eight years altogether after making a bid for City Council before being elected to the treasurer’s post. Ward is an Army veteran, a retired California Highway Patrol sergeant and has lived in Dixon for 25 years.

The Chamber of Commerce will then continue with candidates for the two open seats of the Dixon Unified School District Board of Trustees.

They are Regina Espinoza, who was appointed a couple of years ago when Melissa Maseda moved out of the area; Jimmy E. Thiessen; Michael Ceremello; Robert E. Sanchez Jr.; and Robin Erika Beck-Ruftin.
