DIXON, CA (MPG) - Dixon Community Theater presents “Arsenic and Old Lace,” a classic comedy that mixes dark humor with heartwarming characters from Oct. 12 through 20 at the Dixon High School Theater.
Originally written by Joseph Kesselring in 1939 and made famous by the 1944 film adaptation starring Cary Grant, “Arsenic and Old Lace” has delighted audiences for decades. The play revolves around the Brewster family, focusing on Mortimer Brewster, a drama critic who discovers his two sweet elderly aunts have been harboring a shocking family secret. Chaos ensues when Mortimer’s criminal brother, Jonathan, returns home, leading to a night full of mayhem, humor and a few dead bodies.
With its witty dialogue, eccentric characters and madcap plot twists, “Arsenic and Old Lace” remains one of America’s most beloved comedies. Fun fact: when it first opened on Broadway in 1941, the show ran for more than 1,400 performances, an impressive feat for any production.
This production’s cast includes Janice Ferrero, Angel Gatchel, Barrett Shepherd, Emily-Jo Shepherd, Neil Henderson, Dave Muerle, Robert Williams, Dave Cripe, Dave Atkinson, Chris Tan, Loren Ferrero and Tanea Ingram.
The show is directed by Cheryl Sommers, with Kelly Pidgeon James as assistant director. Their vision brings out both the humor and the heart of the play, making it a must-see event this fall.
Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for students and seniors.
Showtimes are Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. The Dixon High School Theater is at 555 College Way, Dixon.
