DIXON, CA (MPG) – Dixon High School’s Varsity Flag Football Team continued to dominate last week, with a record of 13 wins and two losses.
After their performance in the 2023/2024 season, winning the league championship undefeated, their current season followed a similar trend in the recent weeks.
These young athletes have the support of Coach Kirk Morris, who has coached flag football for two years, but has years of experience with both Dixon High School and football, having coached the boys' football team during the 2009/2010 season.
“I lead by example,” Morris said. “Character is number one in my book.”
When asked about how he crafted such a positive team culture, Morris specified team bonding, inclusivity and creating an atmosphere of togetherness.
“We make sure everyone is one,” Morris said.
Having had a strong start to the season at 13 straight victories, the two losses are an unfortunate turn but not an irreconcilable one as Morris said he believes in moving forward.
“We always strive to be better each day,” Morris said. “We hope to make the program the best in California.”
Outside of sports, there are plenty of challenges in everyday life, which Morris said, “You just need to hit them with everything you have.” Youth sports are important because they help craft the skills necessary for future leaders.
“It’s a confidence builder,” Morris said. “It teaches them drive, communication and leadership skills, which they’ll need in the future.”
The Dixon High School Varsity Flag Football season ends with the Oct. 23 home game against the Casa Robles Rams after press time. For more information about next year’s season, go online to dixonramsathletics.com.
