DA’s Office Receives Grant for Specialized DUI Prosecution Team

Nov 13, 2024 12:55PM ● By Solano County District Attorney’s Office News Release

FAIRFIELD, CA (MPG) - The Solano County District Attorney’s Office announced Nov. 4 that it has received a $382,534 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support a specialized prosecution team that handles alcohol- and drug-impaired driving cases.  The grant program runs through September 2025.

“Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs poses a significant risk to everyone using the roadway. We too often see drivers under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs involved in traffic accidents resulting in injury or loss of life. These consequences are both devastating and preventable. We are fortunate to partner with the California Office of Traffic Safety as we join efforts to hold offenders accountable and deter this dangerous activity,” Solano County District Attorney Krishna Abrams said.

The specialized prosecution team will also partner with the statewide Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor Training Program (TSRP) to train other prosecutors and investigators and collaborate with law enforcement agencies on best practices for handling and managing driving under the influence (DUI) cases.

This is the 13th year the Solano County District Attorney’s Office has received funding from the OTS for a specialized DUI prosecution program. Last year, the prosecution team filed 1468 DUI cases, including 58 DUI drug cases and 20 DUI combined alcohol and drug cases.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
