DIXON, CA (MPG) - Yenifer (Yeni) Gutierrez Gonzalez is Soroptimist International Dixon Young Woman of the Month. She was nominated by the Math Department at Dixon High School. Paola Pantoja, Dixon High School Math Teacher and Chair of the Department attended our celebration event along with Principal Angela Brown.
“Yenifer consistently demonstrated qualities that make her stand out as an outstanding individual,” Pantoja said. “She is never afraid to take initiative, ask questions, and tackle challenging problems with determination.”
Ms. Pantoja went on to say “Yeni took initiative and created the FFA garden, a project that reflects her creativity, leadership, and commitment to the Dixon community.”
Gutierrez Gonzalez is the daughter of David Gutierrez Becerra and Maria del Rocio Gonzalez Garcia. Gutierrez Gonzalez has a sister, Estefania, who currently attends UC Davis and is her role model. Her sister, Estefania was also a recipient of a Soroptimist Scholarship. Gutierrez Gonzalez expressed gratitude to her parents for their sacrifices and for being such great parents.
Gutierrez Gonzalez and her family immigrated from Mexico to the United States in 2018. She attended C.A. Jacobs Middle School before attending Dixon High School. Getting involved in FFA had an impact on what she wanted to do after graduation. Taking animal science classes and realizing she has a great interest in animals and science, she wishes to pursue veterinary medicine. She appreciates Mr. Tanaka, the Ag instructor, for his teaching model and support.
Gutierrez Gonzalez’s greatest accomplishment is being reclassified to fluent English. Her contributions to her school include the development and continued maintenance of the garden. Although she is currently not in FFA, Gutierrez Gonzalez spends 1 to 2 hours after school each day working in the garden; she also regularly attends School Board meetings. This demonstrates her passion and commitment to education.
Gutierrez Gonzalez’s future goals are inspiring, hoping to attend UC Davis and major in Biology or Animal Science in her pursuit of Veterinary Medicine.
Soroptimist International of Dixon members wish Yenifer the best in her future pursuits. What an amazing young woman.
