Dixon Girls Softball Registration
Dixon Girls Softball is holding regular registration for its upcoming spring 2025 season until Dec. 31. The team will also host catching, slapping and pitching clinics on Dec. 27 and Jan. 3 at Silveyville Christmas Tree Farm, 6248 Silveyville Road. For $45 per person, participants can join the slapping clinic, which focuses on drag bunting, slap hitting and power slapping from 9 to 10 a.m. either day. The catching clinic, also $45 per person, focuses on framing, blocking and throwing from knees, and runs from 10 to 11 a.m.
On the other hand, hour pitching sessions are $55 per person, can be scheduled ahead of time, and focus on video analysis, velocity reading, proper mechanics and arm care. For more information, visit Dixon Girls Softball’s Facebook Page or call coach Jon Campista at 905-502-6001.
Dixon Alerts
Dixon Alerts, a new notification system, has been introduced to the general public by the City of Dixon. The alert system allows residents and visitors to sign up for notifications on traffic alerts, events and other urgent news. Alert Solano will still be used in urgent or life-threatening situations but those interested can register for Dixon Alerts via text message by texting DIXON to 226787.

Christmas Tree Recycling
Boy Scouts of America Troop 152 hosts a Christmas tree recycling event on Dec. 28 and Jan. 4. Donors can pay a minimum of $20 to have their tree picked up at an address of their choosing. Pre-registration is necessary and can be done by either signing up through the T152 Square Store and donating by credit card or using the organization’s online Google Form located on their website and donating by cash or check. Calling or texting is also a viable option when signing up; even without a Christmas tree, donations can be made directly to Troop 152 at troop152dixon.square.site.

VFW Upcoming Meeting
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8151, will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Jan. 15. Meetings are held every third Wednesday at The Olde Vets Hall, 231 N First St. Official business meetings start at 7 p.m. but the hall opens for set-up and socializing at 6 p.m. Socializing will continue after the business portion of the meeting.

2025 New Year’s Eve Party
Solano Family First Responders is hosting a New Year’s Eve party at the Sunrise Banquet Hall and Event Center, 620 Orange Drive, Vacaville. Beginning at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 31, guests should prepare for a night filled with vibrant music, dancing and joyful festivities, all for $108.55 per person. A table for eight can also be reserved for $855.50. Free parking, complimentary champagne, a deejay, food service, door prizes and a photo booth are included. Event proceeds will benefit the family of Vacaville Police Officer Matthew Bowen, who lost his life in the line of duty last July 11.

Dirty Cello New Year's Eve
Winters Theatre Company is hosting a reasonably priced night of fun and music that ends at a reasonable hour. From 8 to 10 p.m. Dec. 31 at Winters Opera House, 13 Main St., rock out with the San Francisco-based Dirty Cello band, with its unique fusion of blues, rock and Americana; led by cellist Rebecca Roudman, The performance is $35 per person.

Optimizing Equine Performance
Blissful Equine, an organization that focuses on holistic bodywork for horses, is hosting a fun, hands-on class that teaches participants how to lengthen their horse’s performance life and help them achieve their athletic potential. The seminar from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Jan. 11 will be led by Dawa Fitzmaurice at the UC Davis Equestrian Center, 1 Equestrian Lane, Davis.

Family Storytime
Dixon Library, 230 N. First St., is hosting its weekly Family Storytime from 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 7. There will be stories, songs, rhymes and movement activities for families with children of all ages. The library is on winter break from Dec. 25 to Dec. 29. The library will reopen briefly on Dec. 30 and 31 but will close at noon on both days; the library will again close Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. Penguin Cakes Kids’ Class
Every Baking Moment, 143 N. First St., is hosting an in-person kids class for $12 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 8. The class will focus on making penguin cakes and offers a take-home kit for those who are not available for the in-person class. Kits must be reserved by 5 p.m. Jan. 7 but can be picked up anytime from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 8.
