DIXON, CA (MPG) - Local boutiques will be lending their fashions to the Dixon Women’s Improvement Club (DWIC) at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall for a spring fashion show.

The club plans to highlight apparel from Dixon stores Tres Bandidas, owned by Fabiola Sizemore, and Sophia Grace, owned by Lisa Newkirk; Davis boutiques including The Wardrobe, owned by Heather Caswell, and Peachy Lady, owned by Lisa Vang. There will also be styles from The Winters Collective, with clothing by Karen Lucchesi.

Jewel Fink is the event Chair and has reported that Mayor Steve Bird will be commentator. Dixon Women’s Improvement Club members, including Ashley Alvarez, Teri Brown, Binky Eason, Marcine Edson, Jewel Fink and Cheryl Hughes are volunteering to model numerous outfits. The business meeting will follow the show.

This year’s programs were developed from membership surveys with a goal to provide opportunities for learning interesting topics and enjoying creative activities for monthly meetings. Some of the future meetings will include a Heart Health talk on Feb. 19 with a top cardiologist from Kaiser Permanente, a Bingo game in March and cake decorating with Anne Marie Raymos from Every Baking Moment in April. The programs are open to all members, and guests are welcome to attend.

In addition, the board and the committee chairs have selected an excursion to 8 Gables Goat Ranch in rural Vacaville, as well as a trip to High Hand Nursery in Loomis this spring.

The Dixon Women’s Improvement Club was established in 1899 in Dixon. The founders were women from families who had settled in the Dixon area following the Gold Rush of 1849 and were interested in beautifying and improving the town of Dixon.

Their purpose is to operate a non-profit, charitable organization for the beautification, improvement and promotion of the best interests for the city of Dixon through club-directed projects and community activities.

The club is open to women who are interested in joining and guests are welcome. Dixon Women’s Improvement Club meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month from 1 to 3 p.m. Light refreshments are served.

Meetings are held at the Fellowship Hall of the Dixon United Methodist Church, 209 North Jefferson St. To become an active member, a woman is required to make a payment of $35 annual membership dues. For more information, call President Teri Brown at (916) 601-3371.
