SOLANO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Solano County Genealogical Society will have a virtual Speaker Series presentation on Saturday, Feb. 1.
Our speaker, Annette Burke Lyttle, will speak on “Tax Records: More Exciting Than You Might Think” at 11 a.m. This should be interesting shortly before tax season starts.
Annette’s description of this topic is the following: Tax records can help us locate our ancestors in place and time. They can tie our ancestors to land or confirm to us that an ancestor did not own land. They can help us follow ancestral migrations and separate same-named persons. Sometimes they can help us pinpoint a death date or timeframe. Tax records can act as censuses between the censuses. The variety of taxes levied by governments at all levels has left a rich record of our ancestors’ lives and their sometimes-changing fortunes.
Annette Burke Lyttle owns Heritage Detective, LLC, providing professional genealogical services in research, education, and writing. She speaks on a variety of genealogical topics at the international, national, state, and local levels and loves helping people uncover and share their family stories. Annette is a course coordinator for the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy and the British Institute. She is a published writer whose research interests include Quaker ancestors and ancestral migrations in the U.S. She is past president of the Association of Professional Genealogists.
Guests are welcome to attend this free event. If interested, send an email to the society at [email protected] no later than 4 p.m. Jan. 31 to request an invitation. More information on events can be found on the society’s website at www.scgsca.org and Facebook page.
