Mar 12, 2025 09:01AM ● By Suisun City News ReleaseSUISUN CITY, CA (MPG) - The Suisun City Recreation, Parks, and Marina (RPM) Department welcomes all to its inaugural “Autism Acceptance Month Youth Fun Run” on Saturday, April 5 at Heritage Park in Suisun City.
Registration for the youth fun run is open at suisun.recdesk.com. It is free for youth 3 to 17, and there is a $10 fee for anyone 18 and older to participate.
Participants can choose between an untimed half mile run and a timed 3k run. The half-mile run will begin at 8 a.m., with the 3k to begin immediately after. All participants will receive an event T-shirt and an event race bib.
The youth run will coincide with the 2025 Neurodiversity and Developmental Disabilities Conference, held at the Joseph Nelson Community Center from April 4 and 5. Registration information for the conference can be found at specialcareservices.org/neurodiversity conference.
“The intent of the fun run is two-fold: to encourage our local youth to grow an affinity for outdoor exercise and to recognize April as Autism Acceptance Month,” management analyst II Marvin Mora said. “This is such a unique opportunity to get families outdoors and, in a way, where those of all abilities can meet, exercise, and have a memorable experience together. I am excited for this event and hope that the community will join us.”
The youth fun run is made possible through a grant award from the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Childhood Obesity Prevention Program.
This fun run will be the first in a series of two free, inclusive youth runs intended to get youth outdoors, exercising and utilizing their local parks and trails system in an effort to combat Suisun City’s growing childhood obesity issue. The second youth run is tentatively scheduled for the summer at Rush Ranch Open Space in collaboration with Solano Land Trust.
