DIXON, CA (MPG) - Karen Gonzalez is Soroptimist International of Dixon’s Young Woman of the Month. She was nominated by Jezebel Corona, physical education teacher. Principal Angela Brown was also in attendance at the Young Woman of the Month ceremony.
Gonzalez and her family moved to Dixon from Vallejo in the summer of 2024. Gonzalez notes a remarkable, but welcome, difference between living in Vallejo and living in Dixon.
Gonzalez is the daughter of Rosa Gonzalez. She has an older 22-year-old brother and a younger 11-year-old brother who is attending John Knight Middle School.
New to Dixon High School, Gonzalez had no idea that there were so many clubs and teams to join. She decided to dive right in. She joined the Dixon High School Drama Club, where she participated in the school play “Back to the 80’s.” She also joined the Barnyard and Key Clubs. She is part of the Dixon High School marching band and color guard. She never had such passion until she joined the color guard and plans to continue this passion in college.
The accomplishments Gonzalez is most proud of include starting a student council at her charter school in Vallejo, winning second place at a recent color guard tournament of the champions competition and getting accepted to colleges.
Gonzalez plans to attend Sacramento State University to study criminal justice. Her dream is to become a criminal investigator. She also dreams of owning her own small bakery shop one day, as baking is something she really enjoys. Most importantly, she wants to be a positive example for her younger brother.
Soroptimist International of Dixon members know that Gonzalez has achieved so much and has much to be proud of. She has already set a positive example for her younger brother.
