According to Dixon Little League President Casey Willard, Baseball Fun Day solidifies baseball in the heart of the small community and supports the growth and development of players in the program.

DIXON, CA (MPG) - Dixon Little League’s Baseball Fun Day on May 3 was fun for all ages, while creating awareness of what the youth organization provides players.

Held at the Dixon Little League Fields at 285 E. Chestnut St., the Baseball Fun Day event is important to Dixon’s culture, according to Dixon Little League President Casey Willard.

Baseball Fun Day offered activities and amenities such as bouncy castles, raffle prizes, Connect 4, sack races, life-size Jenga, music, snacks and Dixon Little League merchandise such as hoodies, hats and shirts. Baseball Fun Day is historically the biggest fundraiser that the league hosts.

“I think events like this are important to our culture because it solidifies baseball in the heart of the community and allows youth to learn, develop and grow,” said Willard.

Dixon Little League hosted a Baseball Fun Day at 9 a.m. May 3. Held at the Dixon Little League Fields, 285 E. Chestnut St., the event’s aim was to bring the community together and raise funds for the league.

Baseball Fun Day was a collaborative effort, taking a month and a half to plan and requiring support from the community. About 20 local sponsors and vendors contributed to the event, including Dutch Bros Coffee, Kiki’s Sweets, Paper Pie, Velocity Sports, Kiss My Licorice, Joystick Gaming Lounge, Monster Treats, Big Boy Gloves and Stamped by Dee Apparel Bar.

Jennifer Maldonado of Kiki’s Sweets said that she enjoys supporting Dixon Little League and her children.

“I love it because I get to see my kids play. I also made baseball-themed cake pops to support Dixon Little League,” said Maldonado.

Maldonado has four sons: Aiden Maldonado, Liam Maldonado, Joshua Maldonado and Santiago Maldonado.

Santiago, a 4 month old, is the youngest of the Maldonado boys and the only one not on a Dixon Little League team but, according to his father, Bryant Maldonado, Santiago practically lives on the field.

“I love it, man. It is pretty much what our whole week consists of. We love being out here with the kids,” said Bryant Maldonado.

The event offered activities and amenities such as bouncy castles, raffle prizes, Connect 4, sack races, life-size Jenga, music, snacks and Dixon Little League merchandise such as hoodies, hats and shirts. Baseball Fun Day is historically the biggest fundraiser that the league hosts.

Vendors were organized by Kylie McElwan, Dixon Little League’s family committee chair and treasurer. According to McElwan, the event’s goal is to generate funds and cover the remaining league costs.

“So our raffle (at Baseball Fun Day) is one of our biggest fundraising events for the league,” said McElwan. “If we did not have the raffle, we would come up short making sure our fields are taken care of, our players have new uniforms and more. Historically, this has been the one big fundraising event we do.”

Dixon Little League intends to continue to support the development of Dixon youth, according to the Little League representatives.
