DIXON, CA (MPG) - Soroptimist International of
Dixon was honored to welcome Carmen Baker to speak to Soroptimist members on
May 1. After the loss of her daughter to leukemia last year, Baker founded
Essentially Everly, a nonprofit organization dedicated to offering hope and
comfort to children battling cancer. Her emotional story touched those who
listened, and as her organization is still in its early stages, Soroptimist of
Dixon is eager to help spread the word about her important mission.
A child fighting cancer faces tough treatments and long hospital stays, which can be lonely. Essentially Everly helps these brave kids by providing totes filled with ‘Everly’s Essentials’ that bring joy and comfort, such as blankets, plush toys, arts and crafts supplies, card games and a gift card. Baker’s daughter, Everly, lost her battle with cancer in 7 short months after diagnosis. In her memory, Baker is dedicated to ensuring that other children facing cancer have access to the comforts and distractions they need during their toughest times.
