DIXON, CA (MPG) - Dixon is gearing up for a summer filled with community celebrations, cultural events and family-friendly activities.
Following the Dixon May Fair in May, the town will host a variety of events throughout the summer. Two highlights of the upcoming months include the Farmer’s Market, hosted by the Downtown Dixon Business Association, and Concerts in the Park, hosted by the Dixon Chamber of Commerce. According to Shauna Manina, President and CEO of the Dixon Chamber, everyone is invited.
“We invite everyone to come down to Pardi Plaza from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month to enjoy a variety of music, fresh air and a sense of community,” said Manina. “Presented by the City of Dixon and the Dixon Chamber, the concert series is a free, family-friendly event made possible by the sponsors who believe in supporting and enhancing the quality of life in Dixon.”
The first performance, at 6 p.m. June 5, will be in Pardi Plaza, 132 E. A St., featuring the Richard March Band. To Manina, the free concert series should be used as an excuse for patrons to explore the historic Downtown Dixon.
The farmers market, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. June to September, will also take place in Pardi Plaza every Thursday. According to Downtown Dixon Business Association President Jill Orr, the Chamber and Downtown Dixon Business Association intend to work together to benefit both the farmers market and concert series.
“We’re getting the details of the market lined up, and we’re having it in Pardi Plaza instead of the park this year. We are going to collaborate with the Chamber of Commerce and their concert series. That would give people opportunities to get great vegetables and food while seeing some awesome concerts,” said Orr.

For younger citizens, Dixon Library, 230 N. First St., is offering a multitude of activities for adolescents of all ages, including an End-of-the-School-Year Water Day at 2 p.m. June 4. According to children’s librarian Dionna Campbell, the library has quite a few events going on.
“For the water day, I figured the kids would be getting out early so they can come in, relax and have a chill day. For the summer, we have a lot planned. We’re going to have jugglers, we’re going to have live animals for the kids to see, we’re even going to have Dinger, the mascot of the Sacramento River Cats, doing a special Storytime for us. We have quite a few things going on,” said Campbell.
