DIXON, CA (MPG) - According to History.com, the first Father’s Day on record was celebrated June 10, 1910, in Washington. The holiday officially became a national holiday in 1972. Father’s Day weekend is right around the corner, taking place June 14 and 15. For those looking to do something special for dad, there are multiple opportunities worth consideration.

Dixon United Methodist Church is offering Father’s Day root beer floats at 11:15 a.m. June 15. Held at 209 N. Jefferson St., the event is led by the women of the church, who craft root beer floats for the men, returning the favor from Mother’s Day, when the men were tasked with making strawberry shortcakes for the women. According to Carrie Senecal, Dixon United Methodist secretary, fathers are of great importance.

“Fathers are important. We need them in our lives in all the forms they come in,” said Senecal.

For more information about the church event, visit dixonumc.org or call 707-678-2191.
