DIXON, CA (MPG) - On Aug. 1, Dixon High School Football Varsity and Junior Varsity boys helped distribute wood chips at the Dixon Library Community Garden, 230 N. First St.

Several key figures in the athletic organization were there, including varsity head coach Wes Besseghini and varsity defensive backs coach Charles King.

Coach Besseghini’s father, Jim Besseghini, provided wheelbarrows and other equipment. Coach Besseghini’s sister, Kara Morriera of Besseghini Construction, also lent a helping hand.

Dixon Women’s Improvement Club President Teri Brown, who regularly volunteers at the community garden, said that they needed more volunteers to spread approximately 50 yards of wood chips. Brown spoke to library branch manager Nancy Redfield and suggested they enlist help from the football team.

“(Coach) Besseghini is always looking for volunteer opportunities for his players, so I thought it was a good call,” said Brown. “They made short work of the massive wood chip pile and their hard work was greatly appreciated. Teamwork makes the dream work.”
