December Events Bring Holiday Cheer

DIXON, CA (MPG) - A full slate of holiday events is scheduled in Dixon and the surrounding area this December, featuring community performances, charitable drives, family activities and seasonal attractions.

Dixon Community Theater will open its holiday production, “Dixon’s Great Big Little Christmas Show,” with three performances Dec. 5 to 7 at the Dixon Performing Arts Center, 555 College Way. The Christmas cabaret comedy will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 and 7.

The Friday performance will include a special appearance by second- and third-grade students from Dixon Montessori Charter School. A North Pole Mailbox will be available at each show for children to send letters to Santa Claus.

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and children under 12. Tickets are available through Dec. 3 at dixoncommunitytheater.org but will also be sold at the door. Free entry to the Dec. 6 matinee is offered to patrons who bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Dixon Family Services, limited to one admission per family. According to the theater, the show centers on two sisters who run a performing arts academy and attempt to stage their annual holiday revue. The performance includes local vocalists, junior groups and a mix of classic and contemporary Christmas music.

The Western Railway Museum, 5848 California 12 in Suisun City, will host its Holiday Lights Walk-Through and Santa Trains from Dec. 5 to 21, Fridays through Sundays.

The indoor Holiday Lights Walk-Through in Carhouse 3 is open from 10:30 a.m. to noon and features illuminated displays, decorated vintage railcars, craft activities and letter writing to Santa. Admission is $16.88 for adults, $11.63 for children ages 2 to 14, and $9.53 for museum members.

Santa Trains will run hourly from noon to 5 p.m., with the museum open from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event includes a train ride, indoor light show and visits with Santa, who will give each attendee a golden bell. Tickets cost $32.64 for adults, $28.43 for children aged 2 to 14, $29.49 for seniors 65 and older, $22.13 for adult members and $16.88 for child and senior members. Dixon Rams Youth Cheer will hold a spaghetti feed fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 12 at the American Legion Hall, 1305 N. First St. Proceeds support the Mighty Mite and Peewee squads’ trip to Nationals. Tickets cost $20 per person or $70 for a family four-pack and include spaghetti, salad and garlic bread. The event will also feature raffle prizes and a cake walk. Tickets can be purchased with cash or through Venmo at @DixonYFC.

Dixon’s annual Christmas Parade is scheduled for Dec. 13. Lineup begins at 4:30 p.m., with the parade starting at 5:30 p.m. Organizers report that the event will include food and toys, and coat donations will be collected for Dixon Family Services. The Dixon Chamber of Commerce is holding its second annual Giving Tree through Dec. 15 at 220 N. Jefferson St. Donations can be made in person from 8 to 11 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays or by Venmo. Beneficiaries include the Dixon High Rams Vault, Maine Prairie High Vault and the Anderson Nest. Ornament donations range from $5 to $100. With Christmas and New Year’s fast approaching, these events offer residents multiple opportunities to participate in seasonal traditions and support local organizations throughout the holiday season.
