Upcoming Events Planned at Dixon Library

DIXON, CA (MPG) - The Dixon Library is hosting a variety of programs and activities over the coming weeks, offering opportunities for children, teens and adults to engage in seasonal crafts, learning and community events.

The week of Nov. 21 begins with Afternoon Adventures: No Bake Pumpkin Pie from 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 21. Participants can create a festive, hands-on pumpkin pie, a seasonal treat designed to be simple and enjoyable for all ages.

On Nov. 22, the Peña Adobe Historical Society will host a workshop from 10 to 11 a.m., teaching attendees how to create corn husk dolls and shell necklaces using traditional Native American pump drills. Docents and a fifth-generation Peña descendant will provide historical and cultural context during the activity.

Read to a Dog returns from 3 to 4 p.m. Nov. 24, providing children ages 5 to 12 the opportunity to read aloud to certified therapy dogs. The program offers a relaxed, non-judgmental environment aimed at improving reading fluency and building positive reading experiences. The program will continue every Monday through December.

That afternoon, teens and tweens aged 10 to 18 can participate in Nintendo Switch Gamedays from 3:30 to 5 p.m., enjoying the library’s gaming console in an after-school setting. Concurrently, adults can join Fall-Themed Coasters from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. to create seasonal coasters. Registration is required and materials are provided.

Bilingual Storytime is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 26, providing stories, music and movement for children aged newborn to 5 years old. The library will close Nov. 27 to Nov. 30 for Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

Programs resume in December with Kids Homework Help from 4 to 5 p.m. Dec. 1, offering free after-school assistance for students in kindergarten through sixth-grade, courtesy of the Dixon High School Key Club.

The library will also host a Week-Long Wrapping Paper Exchange from Dec. 8 to Dec. 12. Patrons can exchange new or lightly-used wrapping paper, gift boxes, bows, ribbons, tape and gift tags. Items for donation are accepted beginning Dec. 1, with the exchange station located behind the self-checkout desk.

Tarot Tuesday returns from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 9, offering free tarot readings for teens 14 and up as well as adults. Registration is required. At the same time, Drop-In Senior Tech Help will be available at the Dixon Senior/Multi-Use Center from 1 to 2:30 p.m. for guidance with technology, including e-books, email setup and smartphone use.

From 4 to 5 p.m. Dec. 10, the Solano County Family Justice Center will host a meet-and-greet, sharing information about services available to the local community. The library will also offer a Teen Holiday Cookie Decorating session from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 11, where participants can decorate free cookies with a variety of toppings.

The Dixon Library will be closed from Dec. 25 to 28 in observance of Christmas.
