DIXON, CA (MPG) - Rotary Club of Dixon will host its 22nd Annual Crab Feed Feb. 28 at Madden Hall at the Dixon May Fairgrounds, continuing a long-running fundraising tradition that supports scholarships and community programs.

The event will be held at 655 S. First St. A no-host bar will open at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Dancing is scheduled from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m., with live music by the Time Bandits beginning after 9 p.m. Tickets cost $75 per person and include crab, butter, pasta, salad and bread. Tickets are sold online only.

Rotary Club of Dixon President Ben Voight said the annual crab feed is the club’s largest fundraiser and a key source of support for local causes.

“I think it’s an honor so many people want to come to our crab feed,” said Voight. “It’s our biggest and most successful event during the year. It’s an honor to keep something going this long.”

Funds raised during the event help support Rotary scholarships and community initiatives. According to Voight, local youth groups assist with the event by selling desserts, helping serve, setting up and cleaning up afterward.

“Rotary uses the money primarily for high school scholarships and other local organizations in the community,” said Voight.

Attendees can expect a traditional crab feed menu, along with raffle prizes and auction items. According to Voight, the event includes wine, beer, soft drinks and alcohol, along with a range of raffle offerings.

“There’s a lot of raffle items,” said Voight. “There’s a quilt, there’s a trip to Montana, just a lot of great prizes, great food, great dancing. It’s a good time for the community to come together.”

Live entertainment has become a staple of the event. The Time Bandits will return this year, providing music for dancing late into the evening. A $20 dancing-only option will be available after 9 p.m.

According to Voight, organizing the crab feed requires a large volunteer effort. Between Rotarians, spouses and friends, as many as 70 to 100 people help staff the event.

“It takes quite a lot of us to get this event underway,” he said.

As president, Voight said his responsibilities include overseeing the bar operations and checking in with volunteers throughout the evening.

“I run the bar side of things and I go around making sure the Rotarians have everything they need at their stations,” said Voight.

According to Voight, events such as the crab feed help strengthen connections between the Rotary Club, local businesses and residents. Many small businesses contribute baskets or items for the auction, providing visibility and community engagement.

“There’s a lot of opportunity to advertise,” said Voight. “People learn about different businesses and services as well. It brings people together.”

Voight encouraged residents who have not previously attended the crab feed to consider participating this year.

“It’s a really good deal for the money,” said Voight. “It’s a great time and a good place to meet people in Dixon.”

He noted that about 200 tickets remain available at press time and that many attendees return year after year.

Planning the event requires significant coordination, though Voight believes the club’s members consistently step up.

“It’s always a lot of work, but no challenges,” said Voight. “Rotary always comes together. It’s an all-hands-on-deck affair.”

Looking ahead, Voight said the club has additional events planned, including a pancake breakfast during the Dixon May Fair and a corned beef meal for seniors around St. Patrick’s Day.

“I’m really grateful the community continues to support the crab feed,” said Voight. “It’s so popular it makes me think we may need a bigger venue.”

Voight would like to thank local businesses that donated raffle items, gift baskets and services as well as a special thanks to Rotarians Janice Beaman and Marc Monachello for their time and efforts.
