Dixon Fire Department Names Andrew Tomelloso Firefighter of the Year

DIXON, CA (MPG) – Dixon Fire Department is proud to announce that Fire Captain Andrew Tomelloso has been selected as the 2025 Firefighter of the Year, recognizing his exceptional dedication, leadership and service to the community and department.

Throughout the year, Captain Tomelloso has consistently gone above and beyond in his role by mentoring new Firefighter/Paramedics, filling staff vacancies across multiple ranks and supporting department operations with professionalism and reliability. He has also provided CPR instruction to department personnel, City staff and community members, extending his impact beyond emergency response.

Captain Tomelloso began his service with the Dixon Fire Department in 2008 as a Reserve Firefighter. Through his dedication and strong work ethic, he was hired as a full-time Firefighter and later promoted to Engineer before earning his current rank of Captain. Captain Tomelloso is a licensed paramedic, a member of the county hazmat team and continues to be an invaluable asset to the department, bringing both technical expertise and steady leadership to every aspect of his role.

In addition to his operational responsibilities, Captain Tomelloso manages the department’s public education efforts, including coordinating Fire Prevention Week and the annual Station 81 Open House. His steady leadership, positive attitude and calm demeanor make him a respected member of the organization.

“Captain Tomelloso’s dedication to both our firefighters and the community makes a lasting impact every day,” said Fire Chief Randy Shafer. “He leads with professionalism, supports his fellow firefighters, and consistently goes above and beyond to strengthen our department.”

About the Dixon Fire Department

Established in 1871, the Dixon Fire Department provides fire protection for the City of Dixon and the Dixon Fire Protection District. The Department serves a combined population of nearly 25,000, covering an area of 320 square miles. Seven square miles of service area are within the city limits, and 313 square miles are in the Dixon Fire Protection District through a protection contract. The Department provides fire protection, paramedic-level emergency medical response, fire prevention services, public fire safety education, fire investigations and emergency management.
