April Brings Education, Arts, Community to Dixon

DIXON, CA (MPG) – A range of educational programs, community events and performances are scheduled throughout Dixon in April, offering residents opportunities to engage in financial literacy, environmental education and the arts.
Two programs are scheduled for April 10 at the library. From 2 to 3:30 p.m., Sustainable Solano will present “Tree Guild 101,” an educational session focused on building self-supporting, permaculture-based ecosystems around trees. That same afternoon, from 2 to 2:45 p.m., “Go With The Flow Juggling and Water Science” will offer an interactive presentation combining juggling, comedy and multimedia elements to teach water conservation. The program is open to ages 6 through adult.
A Teen Open Mic Poetry Night will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 16 in recognition of National Poetry Month. Participants may perform poetry or music, with acts limited to five minutes. Event organizers note that vulgar language is prohibited.

Community members may also attend a fundraising event hosted by the Dixon Lions Club April 11. The drive-thru barbecue will run from 4 to 7 p.m. at Tractor Supply, 2000 N. First St. Meals include tri-tip, potato salad, beans and a dinner roll, with proceeds supporting local programs.

Later in the month, Joystick Gaming Lounge, 420 Gateway Dr., Suite C, will host its monthly Bunco Night from 6 to 8 p.m. April 23 for $20 per participant. The event includes prizes, with food and beverages available for purchase. Proceeds from beer and wine sales will benefit Kiwanis Club of Dixon.

Dixon Community Theater will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella from April 24 through May 3 at the Dixon Performing Arts Center, 555 College Way. The production is staged in partnership with Dixon High School and the Dixon Unified School District, with students participating both on stage and behind the scenes.

National observances in April include Arab American Heritage Month, as well as holidays such as Easter on April 5, Tax Day on April 15, Good Friday on April 18 and Earth Day on April 22. National Library Week is observed April 19 through 25.
