SOLANO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Napa-Solano-Yolo-Marin County Regional Public Health Laboratory, operated by Solano County, has been recognized with the Healthiest Laboratory Award from the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) for its commitment to staff wellness, laboratory safety and environmentally responsible practices. This year’s awardees will be announced during the May 2026 APHL Annual Conference Awards Breakfast in Baltimore.
The Healthiest Laboratory Award honors laboratories in local health jurisdictions that show an outstanding commitment to employee health and wellness while actively reducing their environmental impact through holistic practices and policies. This commitment is made possible through a strong collaboration between Solano County Health and Social Services and the Napa‑Solano‑Yolo‑Marin County Regional Public Health Laboratory to integrate countywide wellness initiatives and laboratory‑specific safety practices that protect staff, the community and the environment from biological and chemical hazards.
“We thank our laboratory staff for their continued dedication to maintaining a safe and supportive work environment,” said Beatrix Kapusinszky, Laboratory Director. “This recognition speaks to how our team supports and achieves their wellness goals and maintains conscientious safety practices while carrying out essential work in disease detection, monitoring and prevention.”
The laboratory supports staff health, safety and wellness through a range of policies and practices, including the following.
Workplace wellness programs, ergonomic workstations, supportive break policies and staff-led team walk activities
Regular training, ongoing education, and standard operating procedures for safe laboratory practices, including the proper handling, segregation, and disposal of chemical and biological materials
Required use of personal protective equipment to reduce risk and exposure
Dedicated personnel responsible for biosafety, hazardous materials and quality assurance
Routine health screening and vaccinations for laboratory personnel
Opportunities for professional development, like the public health microbiologist training program
