Cars & Q's Draws Crowds

DIXON, CA (MPG) - More than 100 classic cars and trucks and 21 barbecue teams filled downtown Dixon for the annual Downtown Dixon Cars & Q’s event, which ran from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 27 and was free to attend.
The event featured a car show, a sanctioned barbecue competition, street vendors, shopping, face painting, live music throughout the day and family activities. Visitors also had the opportunity to purchase VIP tickets for the People’s Choice Rib Tasting, which sold out before rib sampling began.
VIP admission included all-day access to the Moose Lodge with bar service, air conditioning and private restrooms. From 2 to 5 p.m., ticket holders sampled competition ribs and voted for the People’s Choice barbecue award.
In the barbecue competition, Smokin’ Stacks BBQ earned first place, followed by 3G BBQ in second and Smoking A’s in third. Braddahs BBQ received the People’s Choice BBQ Award. Bank of Stockton sponsored prize money and trophies for the barbecue competition. Matthews Metal Fabrication produced the trophies.

BrownCar show awards were presented across several categories. In the Stock division, winners were César Ramirez with a 1950 De Soto Deluxe, Tim Wilson with a 1965 Chevrolet El Camino and Robert Luna with a 1973 Chevy Camaro. Truck winners included Enrique Coarua with a 1945 Chevrolet ½ Ton, David Luna with a 1969 Chevy Pickup and Armando Lozano with a 1940 Ford Truck.
Modified class winners were Bill Bowen with a 1941 Willys Coupe, Jim Snow with a 1955 Chevy 150 and Jeff Crowson with a 1960 Plymouth Fury. In the Muscle category, Mark Atkinson won with a 1969 Chevy Camaro Z28, followed by Jeff Babchuk with a 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle and Michael Briggs with a 1972 Chevy Vega. Low Rider awards went to Frank Morales with a 1966 Chevy Impala, Eloy Urias with a 1966 Green Chevy Impala and Rudy Castillo with a 1963 Maroon Impala. Chris Gilbreth’s 1958 Chevy Impala received the Best of Show award.
The Downtown Dixon Business Association’s next major event will be the Annual Art and Wine Stroll on Aug. 22. Last year’s event featured more than 20 wines, including champagne, along with artwork from local artists.
