Fundraisers and Awareness Events on the Way

DIXON, CA (MPG) - Local organizations are preparing a variety of fundraising and educational events over the coming weeks, offering residents opportunities to support community programs, learn about health issues and participate in local activities.
American Legion Post 208 will host a Bingo Fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 2 at Veterans Memorial Hall, 1305 N. First St. Doors open at noon. Admission is $30 for 10 games with six cards per game, and additional cards will be available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the organization's community programs.

Dixon Family Services will host its annual Comedy Night fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 8. The event includes dinner, raffle prizes, desserts and live entertainment and has become the organization's signature fundraising event.
Comedian Jeff Applebaum will serve as master of ceremonies after being invited by returning performer David Studebaker. Kaiser Permanente is the presenting sponsor and supports the organization's Basic Needs Program through community grants. Dixon Family Services is also seeking volunteers for future programs, including Food for Families and Adopt-a-Family.

The Dixon Lions Club will hold its 19th annual Texas Hold 'Em Poker Fundraiser on Aug. 29 at the Olde Vets Hall, 231 N. First St. Cocktails begin at 5 p.m., with tournament play starting at 7 p.m. The event is open to adults 21 and older.
Professional dealers will oversee tournament play, with prizes awarded to table winners. Proceeds from the event will support youth sports and activities, local school programs, Dixon High School scholarships and the Lions Club Vision Program.

Solano Midnight Sun Breast Cancer Foundation will conclude the month's fundraising activities with Under the Valley Moon at 5 p.m. Aug. 29 at Bella Vista Farms, 7108 State Highway 113. The event will feature a Napa-style lobster boil, hosted bar, live entertainment, auctions and raffles.
According to the foundation, donations have helped sponsor more than 1,000 mammograms and provide living assistance grants to more than 300 breast cancer patients throughout Solano County.
