DIXON, CA (MPG) - Athletic fields at what is now John Knight Middle School are being brought back to life nearly 20 years after they ceased regular use following the opening of the new Dixon High School in 2007.

Through a partnership with the Dixon Unified School District, the J.A. Taylor Foundation is refurbishing the school’s baseball, softball and open recreation fields for use by students and community youth organizations.

The J.A. Taylor Foundation is a Solano County-based nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding education, career-development and recreational opportunities for young people. Through partnerships with schools, businesses, community organizations and volunteers, the Foundation supports programs in skilled trades, agriculture and athletics that help youth develop practical skills, confidence and meaningful connections within their communities.

“The fields were once an important gathering place for Dixon students, athletes and families,” said Brent Seifert, CEO of the J.A. Taylor Foundation. “Our goal is to restore them as safe, usable spaces where young people can play, learn and build lasting connections with their community. Without the support of the District, we would not have this opportunity to bring the fields back for the students and athletes.”

The work at JKMS is being completed at no cost to the School District with support from donors, local businesses and community volunteers. Key project sponsors include Grow West, Silveyville Tree Farm and KUIU. Work began in late July and will continue in phases through spring 2027. The project includes resurfacing and restoring the former baseball, softball, and surrounding open fields.

The field-restoration project reflects the J.A. Taylor Foundation’s broader mission to provide youth education, training and development opportunities throughout Solano County and surrounding communities.

In addition to field restoration projects in Solano County, the Foundation has developed several youth-focused initiatives, including an Agriculture and Skilled Trades Career Development Program for high school students, a career mentorship program, and support for FFA members and 4-H groups participating in animal agriculture programs.
