VACAVILLE, CA (MPG) - The City of Vacaville is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the newly established Sales Tax Citizens’ Oversight Committee, created to provide an additional layer of public review, transparency and accountability regarding the City’s local sales tax revenues.

The five-member Committee will initially provide oversight of revenues generated by Measure M, the City’s voter-approved local sales tax. If Measure V is approved by voters in November 2026, the Committee’s responsibilities will automatically extend to Measure V revenues. Measure M and Measure V are general taxes. The Committee's role does not legally restrict how general tax revenue may be used or convert the measures into special taxes.

Committee members will review annual reports regarding local sales tax revenues and the City’s reported use of those revenues, review the results of the annual independent financial audit related to the measures and prepare an annual public report summarizing revenues, expenditures, significant projects and services supported by the revenues and the Committee’s findings. The annual report will be presented to the City Council at a public meeting.

The City is seeking residents interested in helping provide independent community oversight of these locally generated revenues. While specific professional experience is not required, the City is particularly interested in applicants with experience, expertise or demonstrated involvement in one or more of the following areas. Business or community interests; Municipal or governmental operations and services; or Municipal finance, taxation, budgeting, or accounting.

Applicants must be residents of the City of Vacaville. Committee members will serve on a voluntary, uncompensated basis and will meet at least quarterly. The Committee’s role is oversight and public reporting; it does not approve City expenditures, establish budget priorities or direct City operations.

Interested residents should complete the City’s online application by Monday, Oct. 5, 5 p.m. PST. Selected applicants will participate in the City’s established interview and appointment process, with final appointments made by the Mayor and ratified by the City Council at a public meeting. Meetings are anticipated to commence in January 2027.
