DIXON, CA (MPG) - Dixon Fire Department personnel were deployed in early September as part of a Solano County strike team assisting with the Timber and Plaskett fires in Monterey County.

The regional strike team brought together firefighters and equipment from Dixon, Fairfield, Benicia, St. Helena and Calistoga to support wildfire suppression efforts on California's Central Coast.

Dixon firefighters were assigned to work alongside personnel from agencies throughout California as crews conducted fire suppression and structure protection operations in steep and challenging terrain.

The deployment was part of California's mutual aid system, which allows fire departments to provide personnel, engines and other resources to communities facing emergencies that require additional assistance.

The Timber Fire began Aug. 8 in Monterey County, while the Plaskett Fire began Aug. 26. Both incidents prompted large-scale firefighting operations involving local, state and federal resources.

At the time Dixon announced the deployment, its personnel were continuing to assist crews assigned to the incidents.

The deployment also included resources from the Fairfield Fire Department, Benicia Fire Department, St. Helena Fire Department and Calistoga Fire Department.

Dixon officials recognized the firefighters representing the city and highlighted the role of mutual aid agreements in allowing departments across the region to provide resources during major wildfires and other emergencies.
