VACAVILLE, CA (MPG) - The City of Vacaville announced its fifth annual Día de los Muertos celebration will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 7 at CreekWalk Plaza in Andrews Park, 614 E. Monte Vista Ave.

Since its beginning in 2022, Vacaville’s Día de los Muertos event has grown into a community celebration inspired by the traditions of remembrance, family and connection associated with Día de los Muertos. The event brings residents together to honor loved ones while sharing cultural traditions, music, dance, art and food. Each year, local performers, organizations, businesses and community members help shape a celebration that reflects both the cultural roots of Día de los Muertos and the diverse community that calls Vacaville home.

The event will feature with two backdrops – the “Photo Op Hop” – hosted by Visit Vacaville and chalkboard art by Timothy Tang. Capture your memories and share them on social media using @VacavilleRec. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair to sit back and take in the music by Bomba Fried Rice and performances by Folklorico Netzahualcoyotl, Arteritano Flamenco and more. Free kids’ crafts will be hosted by the PAL (Police Activities League) and TAG (Teens Advisory Council) members.

Craft and Cork will have Mexican lagers, wine and cider available for purchase. Pika Dulces 707 will serve assorted agua fresca beverages, along with candies coated in tajin and chamoy. Local favorites – Shula’s Kitchen, Baby O’s and Thirsty Dog – will be on hand to offer delicious food and treats. Face painting by Kristi’s Place will also be available for a nominal fee.

Attendees may bring photos of loved ones to place on the community altar. (Participants should include their name and phone number on the back of picture(s) if they wish them to be returned).

Marigolds, electric candles and hand-crafted picture frames will be provided and are intended to go home with each family to become part of their familial altar. Any pictures left behind can be retrieved at McBride Senior Center, 91 Town Square Place by Nov. 13. It is recommended that participants bring a copy of their picture. The city is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged pictures.
