DIXON, CA (MPG) - Angela Vega is Soroptimist International of Dixon (SI Dixon) Young Woman of the Month for September. She was presented by teacher, Stephanie Kelso, representing the Dixon High School Science Department. Kelso expressed how Angela absolutely loves science, having taken five of the six science classes available to her.

Angela is the daughter of Gilberto and Jennifer Vega, and she has two siblings, Vivienne and Sarah.

Angela has been very involved in her community and school. She volunteers at her church and for the local Rotary Club. She is president of the Interact Club and academic decathlon, an active member of Club Unidos, plays water polo and is on the track team.

Angela participated in a service project in the Dominican Republic with Global Glimpse where she learned about Dominican culture and painted murals at an elementary school to inform kids about agricultural sustainability. Even more notable, Angela was the only student in our area who was accepted, selected and participated in the Yale Young Global Scholars Program this past summer. The Yale Young Global Scholars Program is an academic enrichment program for outstanding high school students from around the world. Each summer, students from over 150 countries participate in one interdisciplinary, two-week session on the Yale campus.

Beyond these achievements that Angela is proud of, she is also proud of earning the AP Scholar Award, has a black belt in Karate and is a Distinguished Scholar in Chemistry.

Not surprising to anyone who knows Angela, Angela plans to attend a four-year college in California and then go on to medical school.

Soroptimist International of Dixon members are truly inspired by Angela’s commitment to her community and her love of science. Congratulations Angela!
